             abstract = "The goal of the present work was to identify spectral features 
                         related to different densities of the phytoplankton species 
                         Ceratium furcoides. In an additional matter, band ratios were 
                         tested to identify the best relationship to the density of these 
                         organisms in reservoirs of the high stream on the Jacu{\'{\i}} 
                         River in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. The samples were 
                         collected in three field campaigns in the reservoirs of Ernestina, 
                         Passo Real and Itauba. The effects of the density of individuals 
                         of Ceratium furcoides for every milimeter in the reflectance 
                         spectra were analised. The sampling consisted of 14 collection 
                         stations distributed along the reservoirs. The results showed that 
                         the shape of the spectra, with a peak of reflectance around 710nm, 
                         is associated to higher densities of the aforementioned organisms. 
                         In addition, it was noted that there was a shift of the peak of 
                         maximum reflectance in the visible spectrum to this wavelength in 
                         conditions of high concentrations of this organism. The maximum 
                         reflectance in the green band shifted to higher wavelengths as the 
                         density of individuals decreased and its magnitude decreased due 
                         to the higher density of individuals, with a less steep 
                         reflectance peak. The ratio of bands, taking into account near 
                         infrared and red, was related to the density of organisms for 
                         every milimeter.",
